Join us for Coronation Weekend celebrations as we celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.
The coronation will be broadcast in The Pit Village chapel and in the 1950s welfare hall on Saturday, 6th May.
We’ll have special craft activities taking place in our 1900s Pit Village school and 1940s Farm all three days, as well as the chance to have a go at making coronation plates using clay at Pockerley Old Hall on Saturday and Sunday.
On Sunday, 7th May we invite visitors to join our street parties at the 1940s Farm hemmel, 1900s Pit Village back lane, and football pitch beside the 1950s welfare hall.
Bands and choirs will be performing throughout the weekend:
– On all three days, Bright Street Big Band will be playing in Hetton Band Hall in our 1900s Pit Village, 2-4pm
– On Saturday, Backworth Colliery Band will play in The 1900s Town park, 2-4pm
– On Sunday, Heinz Chapel Choir will sing in The Pit Village chapel, 1-1.45pm, and North East Concert Band will play in The 1900s Town park, 2-4pm
Throughout the weekend we will be serving coronation chicken sandwiches across our food outlets as well as a special coronation pie in The 1900s Town Tea Rooms, a limited edition royal purple ice cream at Beamish Delicious Ices and a coronation sundae at John’s Café.
