Whose House is it Anyway?

£50, KS2 & KS3

Pupils will become junior members of Beamish Town Council and it will be their job to decide which one of our diverse families will be moving into Beamish Town Council’s new council house.

During the session the group will be asked to split into smaller groups to move around The 1950s Town and interview characters to build their arguments as to why their given family should be the ones who move into our Beamish council house. Each group will present their arguments and the decision will be put to a vote.

This activity will help children to:

  • Understand the range of families who were in need of council housing in the 1950s.
  • Use reasoning and convincing arguments within a debate to persuade others to vote for their family to live in the council house.

Cost: £50. Entrance costs also apply.

Duration: 1 hour

Group size: Whole class

Season: All season
