Visit the 1950s welfare hall to see marvellous Meccano creations. There’ll be a selection of construction sets on display dating from the early 1900s to the present day.
Devised by Frank Hornby to amuse his sons, Meccano was patented in 1901 as Mechanics Made Easy. It became known as Meccano in 1907 and went on to take the toy world by storm.
The North Eastern Meccano Society formed in 1975 and meets regularly to promote the use of Meccano to create models and the collecting of Meccano in North East England. The group usually holds exhibitions at Beamish twice a year.
Use your Beamish Unlimited Pass or Friends of Beamish membership to enjoy the Meccano Exhibition.
