Calling All Choirs for Christmas!

November 15th 2016

Beamish is looking for choirs that would be interested in performing at the museum during our 2016 festive season. After the recent opening of Eston Church, a beautifully restored medieval church in the 1800s Landscape, we are looking for choirs to perform in The Pit Village chapel, the newly opened church and various other indoor and outdoor areas.

Throughout the year we are lucky to have the support of many choirs including school, community and church choirs in addition to our own volunteer choir, the groups performances are a brilliant addition to the museum and extremely popular with visitors.

Choirs are asked to sing traditional hymns in The Pit Village chapel with groups regularly using the Methodist Hymnbook or Sankey & Moody standards hymnbook which are helpful in providing appropriate music, choirs often enjoy the chance to perform in an extremely unique setting, literally performing back in time!

James Barton, Period Music and Dance Co-ordinator at the museum, spoke of how important the choirs are to the museum, he said: “The choirs really help to bring the museum to life and also help us to demonstrate seasonal celebrations such as Christmas and Twelfth Night events. We would love to hear from any groups that are interested in performing here this winter, so if you’re looking for a great day out with your choir and the chance to perform back in time, please get in touch!”

If you are a member of a choir that is interested in performing at the museum or would like more details, please contact James Barton, email: jamesbarton@beamish.org.uk or tel. 0191 370 4047.
