Beamish is delighted to have been awarded the Silver Award by the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), which recognises the commitment and support offered by UK employers for defence personnel.
To qualify for the Silver award, employers must have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, already be accredited as a holder of ERS Bronze Award and actively ensure that their workforce is aware of their positive policies towards defence people issues. Within the context of Reserves, the employer must have demonstrated support to mobilisations or have a framework in place, and should also demonstrate support to the Cadet movement as a whole by providing proactive support to individual cadets and/or to local cadet units.
Samantha Shotton, Beamish Museum’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are so proud to have been given the Silver award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. The museum is committed to actively supporting our citizens who serve or have served in the Armed Forces as well as their families, and this award is testament to that commitment and the work being done at Beamish to uphold this.”
In 2023, Beamish joined organisations across the country in pledging support for those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces and their families by signing the Armed Forces Covenant. The museum was awarded Bronze by the ERS earlier this year.
As well as pledging our commitment through the Armed Forces Covenant, the museum offers discounted entry to serving and ex-serving HM forces personnel.
Those currently serving and HM Forces veterans are entitled to a 25 per cent discount on individual Beamish Unlimited Passes for themselves and up to three guests. To receive this discount, cardholders must show a valid HM Forces ID card, Defence Discount Service Card or Veterans Armed Forces Covenant Card when purchasing an Unlimited Pass from the museum’s Entrance.
