Shop Museums!

November 28th 2020

We’re teaming up with other museums from across the country in a Shop Museums campaign, urging people to support museums by using their online shops.

We will be taking part in #MuseumShopSunday on 29th November, which calls on people to support cultural  attractions through their online shops.

It’s never been more important for people to support their favourite cultural attractions and #MuseumShopSunday is an opportunity to do just that.

The event is led by the Association for Cultural Enterprises, with the Museum Store Association, based in Washington DC, and the Museum Shops Association of Australia and New Zealand.

Our online shop remains open during lockdown, with people continuing to support Beamish with their purchases.

Although the museum had to close its doors in November during the national COVID-19 lockdown, we were able to continue our online store. People have been doing their Christmas shopping online with us, which is a great way to help the museum during these difficult times.

We’re incredibly grateful for everyone’s support – 95 per cent of our income is from visitors, including tickets sales, catering and retail, so having to close twice this year due to the coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact.

Beamish set up the online shop earlier this year, with unique items inspired by the museum’s collections and exhibits. A fantastic range of Christmas gifts was available, including Edwardian-inspired spiced apple bath salts, Jubilee Confectioners’ sweet treats, Beamish’s edition of Monopoly and Herron’s Bakery Christmas cake.
