Domes-day! We're ready to raise the roof on history - UPDATE: April Fool!

April 1st 2018

Did you spot our April Fool?

We’ve got some exciting news to share today (1st April)– we’re putting a roof over Beamish!

We’ve chosen today to announce unbelievable plans to construct giant domes over the museum! We already share the amazing sights, sounds and smells of the North East’s history – and now we’ll soon be able to recreate the air conditions and weather of the past too!

Once the roof is constructed over our 350 acre museum, we’ll be introducing pioneering technology, known as Future Atmosphere Location Surround Engineering, allowing us do everything from adding smog in the new 1950s Town to recreating the great heatwave of 1959 – and always guaranteeing Bank Holiday sunshine, of course!

Joe Kerr, Foundations Overhead Operations Liaison, said: “We’re getting ready to raise the roof and put our open air museum under cover. Today, we can share these exciting plans”.
