Museum Features in International Campaign GOT THE SHOT

February 16th 2025

We were thrilled to be featured in GOT THE SHOT, a three-part mini series aimed at driving tourism to Great Britain.

Produced by national tourism agency VisitBritain in partnership with Expedia Group, the international campaign aims to put regional destinations in North East England, Scotland and Wales in the spotlight and drive bookings.

The three-part mini series was filmed by BAFTA award winning Director Chris Faith and follows comedy duo Lara Ricote and Stevie Martin as they travel around Great Britain searching for destinations to experience iconic movie genres.

Beamish featured in the third episode, The English Period Drama, where Lara and Stevie visited The 1900s Town, met Visitor Experience Manager Emily Frankish and had a tour of the Co-op. Lara and Stevie then donned costume in JR & D Edis Photographers and had their photograph taken together.

During the episode, Lara said “Wow, I’ve never seen anything like this… we can’t believe this place.”

The GOT THE SHOT series is part of VisitBritain’s global Starring GREAT Britain campaign which focuses on screen tourism, attracting visitors to locations which have been used in film and TV shows. VisitBritain research shows that film and TV can play a significant role in driving decisions of potential visitors to visit the UK in the future.

VisitBritain CEO Patricia Yates said: “Partnering with Expedia Group we’re converting the inspiration to visit Britain into bookings, showcasing to visitors from our valuable Australian, France, Germany and USA markets why our regional destinations are the real star of the show.

“The campaign not only shines the spotlight on our destinations but also on the exciting experiences visitors can enjoy in the North East of England, Scotland and Wales. From our stunning countryside, our rich heritage and history to our vibrant cities, Britain is the backdrop to so many great stories. GOT THE SHOT inspires visitors to put themselves in the picture and book a trip to Britain today.”

Beamish, The Living Museum of the North tells the story of life in the North East in the 1820s, 1900s, 1940s and 1950s, and as such, is popular with filmmakers and photographers.

We receive many requests from broadcasters and TV production companies. We look at each of these requests on a case-by-case basis to ensure that filming fits around museum operations. Find out more about filming at Beamish, The Living Museum of the North here.
