Beamish has been named among the top 10 coach destinations in the UK, in a new report.
The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has announced its top coach destinations to mark National Coach Week.
The 10 destinations were chosen for offering great days out for travellers and also outstanding facilities and warm welcomes for coach operators and drivers.
Brenda Alexander, Beamish’s Bookings Co-ordinator, said: “We’re thrilled to be included in this ‘Top 10 Coach Destinations’ list. We feel that groups recognise Beamish as a special place for many reasons. From the friendly voice on the end of the phone or email at the first booking enquiry to the welcome procedure on arrival, through to departure at the end of the day, we strive to provide our group visitors with unique, exciting and engaging visits. Indeed, we have many regular groups which we welcome through our doors time and time again.
“As our groups are booked in advance, entry into the museum is fast-tracked and with so many new exhibits to explore, there’s never been a better time to visit Beamish!”
The CPT described Beamish as: “A firm favourite for tour groups since the 1970s, Beamish is one of the UK’s most cherished open air museums, offering visitors the chance to step back in time and experience life as it was in the 1820s, early 1900s, 1940s and 1950s. Last year, Beamish welcomed over 700 group coaches, drawn by its fast-tracked group entry, welcoming hospitality, and immersive experiences, including historic trams, working shops, and period eateries.”
The museum was listed alongside Blackpool, Lancashire; Bury Market, Greater Manchester; RHS Garden Hyde Hall, Essex; Inverness, Highlands; The Cotswolds, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire; Dunfermline, Fife; Llandudno, North Wales; Matlock Bath, Derbyshire and The Royal Yacht Britannia, Edinburgh.
Phil Smith, Coaching Manager at the Confederation of Passenger Transport, said: “National Coach Week is the perfect time to celebrate the destinations going the extra mile for coach groups and drivers. These top 10 spots are helping to boost group travel by offering outstanding facilities, warm welcomes and unforgettable experiences. Whether you’re exploring rural gardens or bustling seaside towns, there’s a coach-ready destination waiting to be discovered.”
The museum has also been shortlisted in the Best UK Attraction category at Group Leisure and Travel Awards 2025, with winners to be announced on 26th June.
The museum offers excellent day admission rates for groups visiting in parties of fifteen or more. Find out more about group visits to Beamish at www.beamish.org.uk/plan-your-visit/group-visits.
