Beamish Museum announces a range of exciting seasonal job opportunities!

January 29th 2025

We’re looking to recruit people to join our team as we prepare for another exciting year ahead.

We have a number of exciting new job opportunities across our time periods from the 1820s to the 1950s, with roles including Food & Beverage Team members and Engagers in the museum’s towns and rural life exhibits.

We are also holding a Recruitment Fair next week, on Tuesday, 4th February, from 2pm to 7pm, where people can find out more about the vacancies.

Imagine serving up history on a plate! We are searching for enthusiastic Food & Beverage Engagers to join the team. Picture yourself serving classic fish and chips, then stepping into the Drovers Tavern to serve 1800s-inspired meals in a truly authentic setting.

Journey into the Edwardian era and join the team as an Engager in the bustling 1900s Town. Your days will be a whirlwind of activity, from working in the Jubilee Confectioners shop to the task of black leading a kitchen range.

We’re also looking for friendly faces who will take pride in keeping the site sparkling as part of our Cleaning Team.

Ready to dig into history? Help visitors immerse themselves in the world of a 1900s mining village as part of the Mining Life Team. From the pit cottages to leading drift mine tours, you’ll play a key role in bringing the past to life.

In our 1950s Town you could play an important role in bringing history to life for visitors, from welcoming them to the Grand cinema to assisting with lively events like tea dances and the annual pantomime.

Join the Rural Life Team and you could find yourself working across the museum’s time periods, showing what life was like on the Home Front during the Second World War at The 1940s Farm, demonstrating traditional rural skills in 1950s Spain’s Field Farm or welcoming visitors to 1820s Pockerley Old Hall.

We’re also looking for enthusiastic individuals to join the Entrance Team, providing a friendly first and last impression for every museum visitor.

Potential applicants are invited to find out more about the above roles at a Recruitment Fair on Tuesday, 4th February, from 2pm to 7pm at the museum’s Entrance building. Please note, the rest of the museum will not be open that day as Beamish is currently in its winter opening hours.

Debbie Harrington, People and Culture Manager at Beamish Museum, said: “Working for a charity like Beamish Museum really is a job like no other, and these roles are so important in making a real difference for our visitor experience. We’re looking for enthusiastic people to help us deliver exceptional customer service and to help keep Beamish the successful world-renowned museum it has become.”

Founded in 1970, Beamish, The Living Museum of the North tells the story of life in the 1820s, early 1900s, 1940s and 1950s and holds important collections which preserve the social, industrial and agricultural heritage of the region.

Closing date for the above seasonal vacancies is 16th February 2025.
