Lights! Camera! Action! Tickets are now on sale for our Festival of 50s Cinema Evenings!

On Friday, 7^th and Saturday, 8^th July the Masonic Hall in The Town will be set for a fantastic film night as part of our Festival of 50s.

We’re showing Peter Sellers’ first film, Penny Points to Paradise, on Friday, 7th July.  There will be a special introduction by Kate Lees, Managing Director of Adelphi Films, and there’ll also be a screening Let’s Go Crazy, a 1951 short featuring Sellers.

Adelphi was a major distributor of 1940s and 1950s British Films, including Penny Points to Paradise. The films attracted many actors who went on to become household names in the UK and beyond.

On Saturday, 8th July we will be showing the first Ealing comedy shot in colour, The Titfield Thunderbolt. We will also be showing archive adverts and cartoons before the main feature.

Tickets are £10 each, and include a bag of Beamish sweets and a bottle of aerated water from our chemist’s shop.

There will be other refreshments available but please note that only the Masonic Hall in The Town will be open to visitors. Unlimited Passes cannot be used for this evening event.

Beamish is about to start work on building a 1950s Town, a Georgian coaching inn and other developments as part of our Remaking Beamish project, which has been awarded £10.9million by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The 1950s Town is set to include houses, shops, police house, cafe, cinema and recreation area. Aged Miners’ Homes will be a centre for older people and those living with dementia and their families and carers. A 1950s trolleybus system and restored buses will transport visitors.
