Join in with activities as we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, with activities taking place between Thursday, 8th May and Sunday, 11th May. Find more details below:
Thursday, 8th May
• The museum will be joining the nation in observing a two minutes’ silence at 12 noon.
The 1940s Farm
• Hear 1940s songs performed outside the British Kitchen throughout the day, along with performances from the Beamish Volunteer Choir from 11.30am-12pm and 1-1.30pm.
• Discover re-enactor displays, including vehicles on show.
• Enjoy a singalong in Orchard Cottage from 10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30-3.30pm.
• Listen to original VE Day wireless broadcasts.
• See the Rural Life Team’s VE Day clippy mat, made to celebrate the day.
The 1900s Town
• Try a VE Day-themed craft activity in the Masonic Hall.
• Hear a talk about VE Day, peace and the end of wars, in The 1900s Town bandstand at 11.30am and 2pm.
The 1950s Town
• Enjoy 1940s music being performed in the welfare hall, 2-4pm.
Friday, 9th May

• Join in a mini street party outside the British Kitchen, with jam sandwiches and orange squash served at 12.30pm and 3pm.
• Listen to 1940s songs performed outside the British Kitchen throughout the day.
• Discover reenactor displays to find out more about VE Day.
• Hear original wireless broadcasts of VE Day.
• See the VE Day clippy mat made by the Rural Life Team.
