International Women's Day 2025

8th & 9th March, 2025

To mark International Women’s Day, the National Federation of Women’s Institutes has teamed up with Beamish Museum to launch an WI Exhibition showcasing the materials used by WI members over the last 110 years. As the largest women’s organisation in the UK, WI banners, posters, and ‘craftivist’ items will be on display to highlight the NFWI’s remarkable history of achieving positive change for women and society for over a century.

The WI Exhibition can be found in the 1950s Welfare hall between 8th-16th March. On Saturday 8th March, there will be an Exhibition Launch event at 13:00.

As well as the WI Exhibition, Beamish Museum are holding rallies and debates with the Suffragettes at the 1900s Town street at 11:00 and 14:00 on Saturday 8th March 2023 and Sunday 9th March 2023. WI members and members of the public are encouraged to join in!

International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th March each year and we will be showing our support with a celebration throughout the weekend. The day has been observed since the early 1900s and we will be discussing the roles of women in the time periods around the museum.

Use your Beamish Unlimited Pass or Friends of Beamish membership to join in with our International Women’s Day celebrations.
