Home Front, Home Farm 2025

20th & 21st Sept, 2025

Visit our 1940s Farm to learn about life in the British countryside during the Second World War.

In 1939, The Ministry of Food launched its ‘Dig for Victory’ campaign to encourage people to transform their gardens into vegetable plots. The goal was to replace imported food, to free up shipping space for war materials, and to make up for food lost in transit. Join us at The 1940s Farm and learn all about about life on the Home Front.

  • See a display of Fire Appliances and equipment.
  • Pick up an Aircraft Recognition sheet from the Entrance Building or Home Farm.
  • Explore a display by the VERA group and Army Camp by the DLI.
  • Pick up an ID card at the DLI checkpoint.
  • Have a chat to our Land Girls, and complete an activity around the Lumper Jill display.
  • Find out about Jam making and make do and mend activities in the Home Farm Kitchen.
  • Take a look at Second World War Re-enactment displays, including a Parachute Mine.
  • Stroll around and discover some classic cars.
  • Have a dance to some 1940s music in Home Farm Hemmel.
