Dig for Victory 2022

1st to 4th September

This popular event tells the story of life on the Home Front and the vital support role the British countryside played during the Second World War.

1940s Cottages area

  • Get your ID card and prepare for questioning at the checkpoint
  • See a fantastic display of heritage skills from our Land Girls and Lumber Jills, and our Friends of Beamish will be out with their drag saw
  • A Civil Defence display will take place in front of our Anderson Shelter
  • Learn about rationing with our apple press activity
  • Discover 1940s fashion, with hairdressing and make up activities in the Land Girls’ cottage
  • See Second World War re-enactment displays
  • Be amazed by a 1940s Fire Appliance display
  • Learn about life as a soldier at the Army Camp by the DLI. Saturday & Sunday only
  • Take part in a special family activity in Orchard Cottage
  • Complete our Second World War Planes trail

  • See a brilliant range of British and American Second World War vehicles, static displays and 1940s camps.

Please note, our 1940s farmhouse is currently closed.

As with all daytime events, you can use your Unlimited Pass or Friends of Beamish membership to enjoy this special event.

All visitors aged five and over need to pre-book an entry timeslot online if visiting before 1pm and also require a valid Beamish Unlimited Pass or Friends of Beamish membership (these can be purchased online with timeslot). If visiting from 1pm onwards, you won’t need to pre-book (last admission is one hour before closing time). Timeslot entry tickets for up to 30th October 2022 are available to book now.
