Step back in time and enjoy the wonder of Christmas from across our time periods.
From the Georgian period through to the 1950s, delight in traditional decorations, tasty yuletide treats, festive music and lots of fun activities to help you count down to Christmas.
Highlights include:
- Help us find the woolly Beamish Characters hidden around the museum. Collect a sheet at the Entrance or download here.
- Visit Elf Wood and look for mischievous elves in their houses.
- In The 1900s Town, pick up a ‘Christ-mouse’ trail card from the Co-op, emigration office or Town Stalls and have a go at spotting the 12 mice. When completed, head up to the printers to receive your stamp.
- Father Christmas or Mrs Claus will be stopping by every Christmas weekend and travelling around site in their horse-drawn carriage Be sure to give them a wave!
Join in the Georgian festivities at 1820s Pockerley Old Hall, with festive greenery and food displays.
Stroll down the beautiful Edwardian cobbled street in The 1900s Town and see the exquisitely-decorated homes and shops, and tuck into delicious festive treats from the bakery and sweet shop. Browse the stalls for that perfect present, or stop off for a festive photo in the 1900s photography studio, where there’s a stylish range of winter costumes (small extra charge applies).
At The 1940s Farm, the Land Girls are preparing for Christmas, with homemade gifts and ration cooking on the menu. Don’t forget to call into 1950s Spain’s Field Farm to find out how the residents are celebrating the festive season.
Call into the new toy shop in The 1950s Town to explore a wide range of great gifts for the young and the young at heart. See the 1950s decorations, take a trip to the cinema, get a fabulously festive 50s hairstyle (small extra charge applies) and experience Christmas community spirit in the welfare hall.
Across the museum visitors can enjoy festive food and drink, including hearty pies, hot sandwiches, and a range of indulgent hot chocolates.

Christmas at Beamish daytimes are included in admission and are free to Beamish Unlimited Pass holders and Friends of Beamish members.

Father Christmas’ Grotto – daytime visits
We are thrilled to announce that Christmas at Beamish daytimes’ Grotto tickets are now on sale. Book your tickets here.
From 23rd November to 24th December, bring the whole family to experience the magic of the festive season at Beamish, with a visit to Father Christmas in his enchanting grotto at Rowley Station Goods Yard. Immerse yourself in the warmth and charm of Christmas, amid our traditional backdrop. Click here to see our full opening times.
Museum admission applies. Under 5s do not require a ticket to enter the museum but will require a Grotto ticket if they wish to visit Father Christmas. Those aged 5 and over, will require a Beamish Unlimited Pass to enter. Ticket includes a small, traditional gift.
