Vote for a 1950s House

March 27th 2015

Voting is now open to choose a 1950s semi-detached house to be replicated at Beamish.

People across the North East were invited to nominate a semi from the decade to be replicated at the museum as part of our planned 1950s Town.
Nine finalists have now been chosen and we’re asking people to vote for the winner. Find out more about the finalists and vote online here until 30th March. Voting is also taking place at the museum between 28th and 30th March. VOTING HAS NOW CLOSED.
The houses were all built in the North East between 1950 and 1959 as social housing. Some have been nominated by their current owner, while others are people’s childhood homes.
Geraldine Straker, Remaking Beamish Project Officer, said: “Thanks to everyone who nominated their 1950s house. We’ve got nine fantastic finalists to choose from, each with a unique and wonderful story. We’re delighted to be giving people the chance to vote for their favourite and decide which house should be included in our plans for the 1950s Town.
“Voters certainly face a difficult decision. We can’t wait to find out which house they choose!”
The Remaking Beamish project includes plans to build a 1950s Town and upland farm, a Georgian coaching inn and other developments. The museum has received initial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a £10.75million grant.
