Steam Technician

Band 3 Point 7 £20,400

Details

Beamish tells the story of everyday working life in the North East – bringing the rich social, agricultural and industrial heritage of our region to life in a living, working, open-air museum. We are self-sustaining with a large, growing and diverse audience of over 700,000 people per year. Our connection with local people and communities provides the inspiration for our purpose, and the source of our strength and resilience.

As part of the museum, Beamish operates a wide range of transport exhibits to demonstrate how they were used or to transport visitors around the site. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and organised individual to join the Regional Heritage Engineering Team and fill the post of Steam Technician.

The Steam Technician will as part of the Regional Heritage Engineering Team, work on our fleet of steam locomotives (Rail, Road and Stationary) and rolling stock, carrying out both programmed and reactive maintenance work. The work will involve routine ‘fitness-to-run’ inspections of the operating fleet and carrying out repair and overhaul work where and when this is required.

We welcome people to apply for the position who have experience of working on steam locomotives, steam plant, rail vehicles or other similar equipment. Candidates with experience of working in a heritage environment or an interest in historic transport technology would be of particular interest to us.
