Remaking Beamish Construction Manager

Salary to be discussed at interview.

Details

Beamish is undertaking a £17.8 million project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, to transform the open air Museum, adding a 1950s town, a Coaching Inn, and a number of 1820s buildings. For more information about the project, please have a look at our website: http://www.beamish.org.uk/future-plans/

Unusually, we are undertaking the design and build elements of this project in-house so we are seeking to appoint an experienced Construction Manager to oversee the building programme. You will be responsible for the construction of the new 1950s town – including a translocated cinema from Ryhope, shops and houses and a community centre – and the 1820s area, with a coaching inn and several early industrial buildings including a blacksmith’s and a pottery.

Based at the Museum you will be responsible for managing Beamish’s own building team and external contractors, and ensuring every aspect of the construction is planned and delivered safely and efficiently. You will work with the wider Beamish team to ensure disruption to the visitors is kept to an absolute minimum while working closely with the museum’s specialist design and research teams to ensure that period details are accurately reflected in the new buildings, utilising reclaimed materials where possible.

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2020. The contract is for 37 hours per week, for a fixed-term of 36 months initially. Any questions regarding the role can be directed to michellelagar@beamish.org.uk

Completed application forms must be received no later than 12noon on Friday 31st March, shortlisted candidates will be contacted by Monday 10th April and interviews to be held on Wednesday 3rd May. Please note this role is being re-advertised and previous applicants need not apply.
