Matthew collects National Tourism Superstar Award

Beamish’s Matthew Henderson has been presented with his national Tourism Superstar Award.

Our Engagement and Participation Team Assistant won the prestigious title after a public poll, in which he got 36 per cent of the 21,424 votes.

Matthew received his accolade at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2015 ceremony, held at the Sage Gateshead last night (11th May).

Matthew said: “I really couldn’t believe it when I found out I had won. Thank you so much to everybody who voted – the support has been amazing.”

Helen Barker, Beamish’s Assistant Director Engagement and Participation, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Matthew for being voted VisitEngland Tourism Superstar! He’s a real asset to Beamish and is willing to turn his hand to anything with enthusiasm and a smile to ensure that visitors to Beamish get a first class experience.”

Guests from across the country attended the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence ceremony. The Tourism Superstar award was run in partnership with the Daily Mirror and Matthew was presented with his honour by travel editor Nigel Thompson.
