Big Smiles! The award back at Beamish – we couldn’t resist a quick snap of it in our photographers’ studio.

We were presented with a gold award at the North East England Tourism Awards ceremony last night.

Richard Evans, Beamish’s Director, said at the event: “We weren’t expecting to win to be honest, it’s great that we did! Lovely to celebrate with all the staff who’ve worked so hard to make it possible and to celebrate this success, certainly we grow year on year and become more and more successful really due to their hard work.

“It’s a fantastic evening for everyone involved in Beamish and we’ve had a great celebration. It’s been a fantastic night!”

The silver award went to the Life Science Centre in Newcastle and the bronze award was presented to the Sage Gateshead/North Music Trust.

We’ve also been shortlisted for national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2017 in the Family Friendly Attraction of the Year category, in conjunction with Family Traveller. The winners are due to be announced next year.

At last year’s North East England Tourism Awards, Beamish was jointly named Large Visitor Attraction of the Year with Seven Stories, The National Centre for Children’s Books. We also won the gold award in 2015.

We won a bronze award at this year’s VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, in the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year category.
