Beamish will soon be serving delicious afternoon tea in true Edwardian style – the perfect gift for that special someone!

Afternoon Tea at Beamish includes freshly-made sandwiches, tasty homemade scones with clotted cream and seasonal jam, a selection of individual sweet treats from the museum’s Herron’s Bakery and, of course, tea or coffee.

It is served in a room adjacent to the Tea Rooms in The 1900s Town, furnished in the style of an early ice cream parlour with wooden booths and mirrored fixtures.  The menu will change with the seasons and gluten and dairy free options are available. Children’s portions of afternoon tea can also be served.

Denise Hodge, Beamish’s Head of Food, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer afternoon tea at Beamish.  It’s fantastic that we can give visitors the chance to indulge in a delicious experience in the beautiful setting of our Edwardian Town.

“Whether you’re looking to treat yourself or for a gift for someone special, this is just perfect.”

Afternoon tea at Beamish has been developed by Sarah Gallagher, a Catering Assistant at the museum.  Sarah is part of the People Development Programme, funded through Arts Council England’s Major Partner Museums.  The programme gives staff the chance to implement their ideas to improve visitors’ experiences, as well as boosting their own skills.

Sarah spent many months researching, costing, developing and testing the Afternoon Tea offer and is excited that all of her hard work has come to fruition.  She said: “I can’t believe it’s come together and the hard work has paid off.  All of the staff in the Tea Rooms are looking forward to the start of something new when we serve the first afternoon teas on Mother’s Day.”

Afternoon Tea is starting this Mothers’ Day, it is already proving very popular though as this date has sold out!  They will be available every day from 26th March 2017 (excluding school holidays and special events) and must be booked in advance.

The price is £13.95 per person (£10.95 child) for Unlimited Pass holders or £23.95 (16.95 child) for non-Pass holders which includes day admission.  Payment is required at the time of booking. Afternoon tea gift vouchers make a perfect present too.
