Come visit a household preparing for Christmas in a time when celebrations were simpler, gifts homemade and children hoped to find an orange and a handful of nuts in their stocking.
In this activity children will help to bake some Christmas treats and make their own gift to take home for their loved one. They will play old fashioned parlour games and finish listening to stories and singing songs by the fireside. The lady or gentleman of the house will lead the festivities, making sure that everyone enjoys themselves.
The activity takes place at Pockerley Old Hall and Home Farm. A shorter activity that does not include baking, is available in the Pit Village if the longer session is booked.
Through this activity, children will:
- Gain a better understanding of how Christmas was celebrated in the past.
- Explore the differences and similarities between Christmas in the past and now.
