There has been a murder! The ‘body’ is to be found in the Ladies Waiting Room down at the Station near the Town. Clues have been left behind. The students need to solve the crime.
The class splits into groups. Each group will then be given a clue or clues which will lead them to a different part of the town. Each group should only visit the exhibits they have been led to by their own clues.
The children will ‘interview’ a costumed demonstrator who will provide them with information which will help solve the murder. Once they have the information they need they will make their way back to the Station to share what they have discovered with the rest of the group.
The children will learn
- How to solve a problem using team work
- How to ask appropriate questions to get information
- How to put relevant pieces of information together to solve a problem
- How to make accurate and relevant notes
- How to picture the story in order to understand what happened
Please note that during the activity the group will be split into smaller groups to go to interrogate characters in the Town. Each group must be accompanied by a school adult – the number of adults will determine the number of groups.
Post Visit: This activity lends itself perfectly to the writing of newspaper reports. Teachers can take the notes the children make back to the classroom.
