Traditional Sweets & Treats Experience

£65 per person

If you have a sweet tooth, our Traditional Sweets & Treats Experience is most definitely for you!

Our experienced Period Food team will teach you everything you need to know to make a selection of delicious, traditional sweets and treats including cinder toffee, coconut delights, Scottish tablet, rum truffles or sweetmeats.

If you manage to resist eating them as soon as they are made, you can take them all home to impress friends and family!

A thoroughly enjoyable experience, educational and fascinating with lovely, knowledgeable staff. Excellent!

Did you know…

That sweets were originally developed for medicinal reasons, to make tablets more palatable? Sweets were soon sold for flavour alone but some were promoted for health, such as sarsaparilla tablets, popular in our region, which were advertised as being good for blood circulation and rheumatic pains!

Cost: £65 per person.

The museum is temporarily closed in response to the Government’s guidance on coronavirus. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will keep everyone updated about future dates for our Traditional Experiences.

Included in your experience:

  • All equipment and ingredients to make a selection of sweets.
  • Tea/coffee and a slice of cake.
  • Tuition from our Period Food Team.
  • Option to wear costume.
  • Copy of recipes used on the day.

Please note: Courses are only available for those aged 18 and over unless otherwise stated.  Tram and steam engine driver experiences are limited to those aged 21 and over, who hold full UK driving licence.
