Be inspired by Beamish Museum’s collection of original and unique proggy mats! Make your own proggy mat during our Proggy Mat Workshop and take it home, along with your own mat making kit.
Made from old sacks and recycled fabric including old clothes and sheets, proggy mats were an economical option to keep feet warm in an era before fitted carpets.
Felt, frame, hessian and homemade proggers will be provided on the day to make your proggy mat and attendees are welcome to bring any old clothes, sheets etc to add to their mat as would have traditionally been done!
Cost: £85 per person. (Lunch included)
The museum is temporarily closed in response to the Government’s guidance on coronavirus. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will keep everyone updated about future dates for our Traditional Experiences.
Please note: Courses are only available for those aged 18 and over unless otherwise stated. Tram and steam engine driver experiences are limited to those aged 21 and over, who hold full UK driving licence.
