For over a decade, members of Wessington U3A War Memorials group have been researching the names of soldiers and their stories using the three Washington Great War memorials.
Having recently made three HLF-funded films about Washington during the Great War and another called The Wear at War, the group have many fascinating tales to tell.
The museum is delighted to welcome Peter Welsh, a member of the group, who will bring along examples of research materials and offer advice on aspects of family research relating to the First World War.
Following it’s refurbishment by Beamish’s skilled Maintenance Team at the start of the year, Peter will be in The Pit Village chapel (next to the roaring fire!) during these unique sessions. The films, featuring local historians and interviews with direct relations of some of the men killed, will be screened in the chapel.
