Remembrance Weekend 2023

Sat, 11th & Sun, 12th November 2023

Saturday, 11th November will see Beamish remember Armistice Day. On this day, Remembrance Commemorations will be focused around the Durham Light Infantry memorial bench by the 1950s bowling green. We will be joined by members of the Durham Light Infantry Association.

At 10.58am, buglers from Off Key Music will perform The Last Post. At 11am a two minute silence will be observed. The buglers will respond with Reveille followed by a wreath being laid by the Durham Light Infantry Association.

Off Key Music will also be performing on the stage of the 1950s welfare hall from 12-2pm.

 

On Sunday, 12th November, Beamish will hold an Act of Remembrance for Remembrance Sunday.

Remembrance Commemorations will take place in The 1900s Town park focusing around our First World War artillery piece.

At 10.45am, riders on horseback representing the 16th Lancers, the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry and Remount Service will make their way onto the Town Street. They will remain on The Town street for the Act of Remembrance and then complete a few laps of the museum before midday.

At 10.58am, buglers from Off Key Music will perform “The Last Post.” At 11am a two minute silence will be observed. The buglers will respond with Reveille followed by wreaths being laid from the museum and the Friends of Beamish.

The Beamish Choir will sing in The Pit Village chapel at 1pm and 2pm and Off Key Music will perform on the stage of the 1950s welfare hall from 12-2pm.

A poppy display produced by the Beamish Craft Club will also be on display throughout the weekend in the Masonic Hall in our 1900s Town.
