We also have lots of fun activities planned across the museum, including:

  • Head to The 1900s Pit Village to play games in the back lane of Francis Street and discover traditional toys in the pit cottages.
  • At The 1940s Farm, find out about traditional crafts such as crochet, proggy mat-making or knitting and see the wartime ration cooking – and don’t forget to get your identity card stamped in the farmhouse or Land Girls’ cottage (you can collect the cards from the museum Entrance).
  • At 1820s Pockerley Old Hall, there’ll be Georgian skills and crafts – activities will vary each day, from making a compass or sundial to traditional games and a visit from the quack doctor.
  • Pick up a special Tramway 50th Anniversary transport ticket from the Entrance and get it clipped by our conductors as you spot the Beamish vehicles around the museum or at the depot.
  • In The 1900s Town, join the Suffragettes in their march to win Votes for Women, at 11.30am and 1.30pm. Create a postcard from across the globe in the Masonic hall. You can also turn detective and see if you can solve the Cluedo mystery!
  • Enjoy all the fun of The Fairground – take a spin on the rides (additional charge applies).
  • Take a steam train ride through the Georgian landscape on The 1820s Pockerley Waggonway (running Bank Holiday Monday, 29th May and Wednesdays to Sundays).
  • Visit the 1950s-style playpark in Coronation Park, where you can also have a go at the North East-themed mini golf course – can you get a hole in one? (Extra charge applies for golf.)
  • Spain’s Field Farm is open weekends and Bank Holiday Monday – play with the traditional toys and games, including the children’s dressing-up box, and find out about butter churning and milking.

Don’t forget to treat yourself while you’re here:

  • Middleton’s Fish and Chip Shop in the 1950s terrace will be serving small fish and chips starting from half term, while at WH Smith’s in our 1900s Town, paninis are on the menu.
  • Don’t forget to pop into our 1900s Town sweet shop or Herron’s Bakery – or perhaps treat yourself to a sweet shop flavoured ice cream from Beamish Delicious Ices, will you try rhubarb and custard or lemon sherbet?
