May Day Celebrations 2022

Join us as we celebrate a traditional May Day at Pockerley Old Hall and in The 1900s Pit Village.

Pockerley Old Hall will be traditionally decorated for May Day and learn about the story of May Day in Georgian times.

In The 1900s Pit Village, visitors can find out how May Day was celebrated in the early 1900s and make Jack in the Green masks in the Board school.

Plus, on Monday, 2nd May you can:

  • Take part in the May Pole Dancing in The 1900s Pit Village from 11-11.30am and 1-1.30pm. We’ll be crowning the May Day King and Queen after the last May Pole Dance
  • Enjoy fantastic music from the Axum Folk Ensemble outside Hetton Silver Band Hall in The 1900s Pit Village from 11.30am-12pm and 1.30-2pm.
  • See Hexham Morris Men and Hexhamshire Lasses performing outside Hetton Silver Band Hall 12-45pm and 2.30-3.15pm.

As with all daytime events, you can use your Unlimited Pass or Friends of Beamish membership to enjoy this special event.

Visitors still need to pre-book timeslot tickets for the 10am, 11am and 12pm timeslots to help us manage the flow of visitors through our Entrance building during our busiest times but, if you are visiting from 1pm onwards, you can just turn up and won’t need to pre-book (last admission is one hour before closing time).

Beamish reserves the right to alter or change this programme at any point.
