It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Join us for fantastic festive celebrations as we welcome Father Christmas to the museum, officially opening Christmas celebrations at Beamish!
Father Christmas is sure to arrive in style, and he’s shared with us a few of the things we can expect to see as part of his magical parade – which includes different aspects from Beamish events throughout the year, reflecting on the brilliant 2019 we’ve had!
At 1pm the grand parade will make its way from Pockerley Old Hall tram stop, through The 1900s Town, finishing at The Fairground, where the Christmas tree lights will be switched on.
Mrs Claus will wave hello as she passes by on her enchanting sleigh. There’ll be a range of rescue vehicles (including fantastic fire engines!) from past to present day to marvel at, and even American Second World War vehicles.
As well as a horse-drawn vehicles, including a four-wheeled open top landau carriage, the Friends of Beamish will ride along on their bicycles and in their vehicles, including the Matchless motorcycle.
The North of England Classic and Pre War Automobiles Club will bring around a dozen beautiful classic cars. Plus, can you spot the clown car?
To get everyone in the festive spirit, the Borneo Band and Newton Aycliffe Pipe Band will play traditional yuletide tunes and the Beamish choir will sing Christmas carols. Off Key Music and Beamish Brass will also be doing a joint performance and marching in the parade.
Saving the best to last, Father Christmas will arrive on his magical sleigh, being towed by a steam-powered showman’s engine – a fantastic sight to see and a sign Christmas has definitely arrived at the museum!
