Christmas at Beamish daytimes 2023

25th November to 24th December

Come along to the museum for Christmas at Beamish daytimes from 25th November to 24th December and enjoy the wonder of Christmas through time!

From Georgian merriment to 1950s festive fun, be immersed in traditions from the past. Start your own special family traditions as you enjoy the Christmas season with us!

Join in the Georgian festivities at 1820s Pockerley Old Hall, with greenery, festive food displays and a traditional (non-chocolate!) yule log, as well as crafts to join in with on weekends.

Stroll down the beautiful Edwardian cobbled street in The 1900s Town and see the exquisitely-decorated homes and shops, tuck into delicious festive treats from the bakery and sweet shop and hear brass bands in the park during weekends. Don’t forget to browse the stalls for that perfect present, and why not stop off for a festive photo in the 1900s photography studio, where there’s a new winter range of costumes (small extra charge applies).

Take a spin on the rides at the Fairground and test your skills on the sideshows (small extra charge applies).

In The 1900s Pit Village, see the mining families all set for Christmas in the traditionally-decorated pit cottages. At weekends, enjoy choirs in the chapel and try your hand at crafts.

In Elf Wood, see what the mischievous elves are getting up to. Some of the elves have escaped around the museum, can you spot them all and complete the Elf Trail? Available from the Entrance and to download here.

At The 1940s Farm, the Land Girls are preparing for Christmas, with homemade gifts and ration cooking on the menu. Get involved and make paperchains and postcards on weekends.

In The 1950s Town, at the new council houses, police houses and aged miners’ homes, discover how families celebrated Christmas in the 1950s. Experience the community spirit of Christmas crafts in the welfare hall every weekend in December and during local school holidays, and why not treat yourself to a new look, with a 1950s hairdo in Elizabeth’s Hairdresser’s? (small extra charge for hairdressing).

Spain’s Field Farm will be open on weekends, where visitors can find out how 1950s farming communities celebrated Christmas.

Around the museum, enjoy mouth-watering festive food, from Christmas lunch in the Tea Rooms overlooking the Edwardian street, to mulled wine, mince pies, chestnuts and speciality hot chocolate!

See either Father Christmas or Mrs Claus travelling around the museum in traditional transport on weekends and local school holidays – be sure to give them a wave!
