Join us to celebrate the centenary of The Durham County Federation of Women’s Institutes. Working with Women’s Institutes from across the county, we will be hosting an exciting day of celebration which will include a grand parade at 2.30pm!
The parade will be made up of Women’s Institute members with their banners, our Armstrong Whitworth Replica Car, a horse-drawn vehicle and an impressive brass band as it travels from The Town to The Pit Village.
In The Pit Village band hall you can learn about the WI throughout the years, join in with making felt wrist bands, play card games and learn about WI resolutions and campaigns. Can you guess the landmark years in the WI quiz? Plus learn about arts, music and leisure through the eras.
See the amazing timeline flower display made by WI members in The Pit Village chapel and have a go at flower arranging.
In the school, make flags to wave in the grand parade and listen to Suffragette songs and stories each day in The Pit Village.
In the Masonic Hall in The Town there will be a fascinating craft exhibition of knitting, quilting, painting and embroidery work – visitors will be able to have a go too. Plus you can learn about broomstick crochet and proggy mats.
Visitors can meet the dentist’s wife in No. 3 Ravensworth Terrace as she hosts the inaugural 1917 meeting of Beamish WI with her committee and ladies from The Town.
Miss Smith in No. 2 Ravensworth Terrace is a member of the WI and she is making jam, pop in and say hello. There’s plenty to see and do!
All County Durham WI members will receive a 25% discount each on individual Beamish Unlimited Passes by showing their membership card upon arrival.
As with all daytime events, you can use your Unlimited Pass!
