The Beamish Development Trust (registered
charity no 517147) supports the work of the Museum
by encouraging donations from individuals, companies
and charitable trusts.
Unlike most major museums, Beamish
receives no Government funding for running costs – 95%
are met from admission charges and 5% from the local
authorities who administer
the Museum. Capital projects such as new historic attractions
and visitor services, must be funded by grants and gifts.
A huge range of historic displays have
been partially funded by the Development Trust, including
the Colliery
Chapel and School, the Garage and Bank in the Town
Street and the restoration of Pockerley Farmhouse and
the Steam
Elephant locomotive in the 1820s area. Money raised
can be used as matched funding to lever grants from
public
bodies, including the European Regional Development
Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The Trust also
raises funds to help children in deprived areas and
people of all ages with mobility problems
to visit Beamish.
If you care about your heritage, and
want to make sure that the lives of your grandparents
and great-grandparents
are not forgotten, please consider a gift to the Beamish
Development Trust.
