The Friends of Beamish
The Friends of Beamish is an Independent Registered Charity helping to protect and re-create the region's past for future generations to enjoy.
Why join the Friends?
- You'll be showing support for a marvellous showcase of the heritage of the North East and you will be part of it.
- You'll get a copy of the Friends magazine/newsletter four times a year.
- You can attend the Friends' series of monthly talks by visiting speakers.
- You can go on the Friends' hugely popular trips to visit museums in other parts of the country.
- Your subscriptions will help the museum in so many ways. In the last fifteen years, for example, the Friends gave £194,000 to all kinds of museum projects.
- Your subscriptions will also fund the range of restoration work that members of the Friends do for the museum.
- You can, of course become a volunteer yourself.....
Volunteer Friends
Lots of Friends of all ages help the museum directly by volunteering to give their time, energy and expertise:
- Some volunteers use their practical skills to restore exhibits. Friends have worked on horse vehicles, bicycles, engines, clocks, steam engines and farm equuipment. If it moved in the early twentieth century, Friends have restored it!
- Other volunteers work at restoring the museum's remarkable collection of North Eastern needlework.
- An increasing number of Friends volunteer to work in costume, helping to interpret the museum for visitors. Some do promotional work at events around the region. Others help in administration of the Friends or conduct visitor surveys for the museum.
There are all sorts of ways you can be involved but you don't need to do anything at all if you don't want to - other than enjoy the advantage of unlimited admission whenever you want to visit Beamish!
